The Footsteps of Jesus study tour explores the Holy Land as Christian pilgrims where we study the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. The tour integrates contextual biblical study with theological and spiritual reflection. The study tour enables you to encounter the roots and traditions of the Christian faith as well as allowing an understanding of some of the contemporary issues in Israel and Palestine.
You will then be able to relate your experiences to your life and ministry at home.
The Footsteps of Jesus study tour is run by St Georges College in Jerusalem and attracts pilgrims from all over the world.
Aims of the Course are:
A welcome transfer from Tel Aviv to St George's College in Jerusalem is included in the tour price. Mission Travel can assist you with an airfare to get you to Israel.
Attend the 6pm evening prayer and Eucharist at St Georges Cathedral, followed by a welcome reception and dinner at St George’s College. After dinner there is an Official Welcome and Orientation of the College.
After breakfast there will be an introduction to the College staff and a group photo.
At 11am we do a geo-historical exploration around Jerusalem. Return to the Guest House for lunch. This afternoon will be a lecture “The geographical context of Jesus’ ministry”. Evening prayer at 6pm followed by dinner.
After breakfast we depart for Ein Karem (Luke 1:39-45) and visit the Church of the Visitation (Luke 1:39-56) and the Church of John the Baptist (Luke 1:57-66). Continue to Bethlehem (Luke 2:1-8) to visit the Church of the Nativity (Matt 1:18-25) and Shepherd’s Fields ( Luke 2:8-20) followed by lunch in Beit Sahour. We visit a co-operative craft shop for a spot of shopping before travelling to St George’s College for 6pm evening prayer and dinner.
After breakfast we depart for the Sea of Galilee. Visit the Tabgha Church of the Multiplication (Mark 8:1-10) and St Peter's Prmiacy/Mensa Christi (John 21:1-25). Enjoy lunch and a visit of the Mount of Beatitudes (Matt 5:1-12). Continue to Capernaum (Matt8:5-18; Luke 7:1-10; John 6:52-59). Late afternoon we travel to Nazareth and check in at the Beit-Aram Guest House (or similar) for a 2 night stay.
This morning we share in the Eucharist at 7.30am followed by breakfast. Explore the excavations at the Sisters of Nazareth Convent and continue to the Basilica of the Annunciation with reflection on Scripture (Luke 1:26-38)
Whilst in Nazareth we also visit Mary’s Well and St Gabriel’s Orthodox Church. Lunch at Awtar restaurant then travel north to Caesarea Philippi (Banias), source of the river Jordan, with reflection on Scripture (Matthew 16:13-28) and the Golan Heights (Acts 9:1-19). Return to Nazareth for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast we check out of the Nazareth Guest House and travel to Mount Tabor, the site of the Transfiguration (Luke 9:28-35). Return to the Sea of Galilee for a boat ride followed by lunch. Return to Jerusalem via the Jordan Valley.
Evening prayer and dinner at St George's College.
An early breakfast before we join the 11 am bilingual Eucharist at the Cathedral. Lunch at the guest house followed by a walk to the Western/Wailing Wall (Mark 11:15-19) and St Anne's Church and the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-15). Back to the college on foot for evening prayer and dinner.
7:00 am Eucharist followed by breakfast. Depart for Ancient Shechem/Sychar (Nablus) and visit St. Phillip’s Anglican Church and meet Fr Ibrahim Nairouz. Visit the Old City, St luke's Hospital Nablus and the Samaritan community centre followed by lunch. In the afternoon visit the Greek Orthodox Church of the Samaritan Woman at Jacob’s Well, with reflection on Scripture (John 4:4-42). Return to the College for evening prayer and dinner.
After breakfast we depart for the Mount of Olives on the outskirts of Old Jerusalem. Walk to Dominus Flevit, the church remembering when Jesus wept (Luke 19:41). Continue down Palm Sunday Road to the Garden of Gethsemane (mark 14:32-50). Lunch at back at the Guest House with the afternoon free.
After breakfast depart for the Judean Wilderness for reflections on the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). Continue to the Jordan River for the renewal of baptismal vows (Mark 1:1-11). We then visit Jericho and the famous sycamore tree (Luke 19:1010). Do some shopping at the Hebron glass shop followed by lunch in Jericho.
Return to the college in the afternoon. After dinner attend a briefing on the Church of the Resurrection/Holy Sepulchre.
Depart early for The Way of the Cross, Via Dolorosa (on foot) ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (John 20:1-18). Continue to Emmaus, Abu Ghosh (Luke 24:13-35). Eucharist at the Sisters of St Joseph: Our lady of the Ark of the Covenat (Kyriat Ye'arim). Return to the College for lunch.
Departure briefing, final reflections and certificates are handed out in the Lecture Room.
Closing reception and farewell dinner.
Depart after breakfast. Airport transfer to Tel Aviv airport is included in the tour price.

St George's College Jerusalem (SGCJ) is a continuing education centre of the Anglican Communion. It is an agency of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, with a mission to the local church within the Diocese, to the wider Anglican Church in the Middle East, and to the global Anglican Communion.
The College programs focus on pilgrimage, community, study and reconciliation.
The College is on the grounds of the St George's Cathedral in East Jerusalem. It is a three story building containing en suite rooms capable of housing up to 42 people. The 21,000 volume library is one of the largest English language libraries in Jerusalem.

St Georges's College, Jerusalem
In Jerusalem you will be staying in the Guest House at St George's College in East Jerusalem.
The College is centrally located in a quiet, safe area that is walking distance to the Old City. There is CCTV and 24 hour security of the entire Cathedral Close area.
Bedrooms are clean and comfortable with twin share and an ensuite. For relaxation there are comfortable common areas including a lounge, dining area, library and a rooftop patio which is ideal for quiet times, reading and spending time with others. There is a mini mart walking distance from the College.
In Nazareth you will spend 2 nights at the Beit Aram Guest House or similar.
It is mandatory to have travel insurance and it is strongly recommended to take out a policy at the time of paying your deposit.

Bookings for this tour will close on 120 days prior to departure unless sold out prior.

The $500 deposit is non-refundable.
However, if the tour is cancelled by Mission Travel due to lack of numbers or security concerns, your deposit will be refunded.

When in Israel why not take the opportunity and extend your stay to visit more of this incredible region! We suggest that you extend your stay AFTER the tour rather then prior. There are options to visit neighbouring Jordan or Egypt or just more time in Israel. We work with on-ground operators and larger tour companies and have expert knowledge of the region.
Full participation in programs offered by St George’s College Jerusalem requires a good level of general fitness and the capacity to walk over uneven surfaces or up steep inclines. Please indicate any limitations on your fitness or mobility that may need to be taken into account.
