Goodbyes and new beginnings

 

For 14 years we’ve helped people travel to remote places in the world to show Jesus’ love. The travel industry has changed rapidly during those years and recently we had to make a difficult decision. On the 31 March 2020, Mission Travel will be closing its doors.

Anyone who has booked through Mission Travel will continue to be supported until their trip comes to completion. From 31 March we will not take new bookings. We will, however, continue to operate as Selah Australia. We are shifting focus to provide discipleship and fellowship through Christian tours, retreats and workshops.

If you have been with us from the beginning you will know that Mission Travel started in 2006. God did a total number on me for the poor during a trip to South Africa in 2004. I remember like it was yesterday. I walked the beach in Durban, balling my eyes out and asking God what He want me to do with this. Mission Travel was born.

It was an absolute joy to partner with schools, non-government organisations and individuals in spreading the gospel and showing Christ’s love through mission.

Each year we had to assess the viability of the business. Competition from the internet and the cost consciousness of mission travel organisations has always meant we operated on tight margins.

To be able to keep my staff, support my family and ensure a sustainable business it became clear… Mission Travel is not profitable and must close. This decision was made with much prayer.

I am proud that as a not-for-profit business, we were able to donate $250,000 to important missions and causes to support the poor and vulnerable. This money went to the Syrian Refugee Crisis, supported Prison Ministry’s Fun with Mum program, bought a bus for homeless mission Nightlight Outreach in Brisbane, and helped so many more.

We will continue as Selah Australia, supporting Christians to go deeper in their faith journey. This means all the travel consultant staff will stay on, dedicated as ever to providing the best possible service focusing on our group tours.

In this transition we will farewell our business manager Mark Gordon. I am grateful for his work and dedication to both Mission Travel and Selah and helping us to thrive in this new phase.

To all of our clients – a huge thank you for allowing us to partner with you. It was such an honour to have a little part to play in God’s plan for the world through booking your travel and helping you get to places God had called you.
